Some of you guys know this- most of you don't. My uncle was murdered in Vegas May of last year. A friend of a friend called him from a payphone at a 7-11 arounbd 1 am and said that her boyfriend dropped her off in the middle of the ghetto and she had no way home. He drove across town to get her. When he unlocked the doors he got car jacked- it was all a set up, the girl was in on it- they heard he had some money and they wanted his ATM card. He cooperated- they made him drive behind a shopping center where after giving them his ATM card and his pin, they pulled his shirt over his head, made him get on his knees, and shot him in the back of the head.
Why am I telling you this- because there's a point- DON'T LET THEM TAKE YOU ALIVE!
If you work as a clerk and you're getting held up, give them the money- it's not yours anyway. But if you're on the street- or anywhere and some asshole trys to take you somewhere- FIGHT BACK! The only reason they want to move you from your current location is so they can kill you somewhere they feel safe- where no one will hear you scream.
I was raised by my grandparents and my uncle was like my brother. The only positive thing that can be gained from this is to share the story.
A friend of mine got mugged in December- they told him at gunpoint to drive them somewhere- he said no, they could take his car if they wanted it, but he wasn't going anywhere. It is a really fortunate situation for him that they left with just his cash, and I know not every situation plays out that well. He said that he just kept thinking about what happened in Vegas. So maybe it saved his life.
That little girl out in Sarasota might be at home with her family if she fought that guy full force when she was at an open business in broad daylight.
If someone's taking me out, I'm doing everything in my power to make sure I'm taking them out with me.

I'm good, I just got home from work. I've of course got alot of issues with the subject- so I don't talk about it much- mainly because I'm not a pitty player and hate people who live for the drama. A newspaper in Vegas did a story on me and it came out really "poor little girl loses family", so I shy away from it alot. I just think it's really important people know that you gotta go out swinging. I don't know the stats but actually surviving a kidnapping is like a one in a million shot. In my lifetime I can only think of 3 storys I've heard where someone's survived who didn't fight back- so I guess that's the chance you take. Shit happens to people every day- I just want to assist in "weighing one's options" in a possbile time of crisis.

Thanks for the reminder about these issues. I talked to my son about it (he's a little creeped out).
So sorry to hear of your loss and pain.

All I can say it that we got not this problems here in europe.. in germany... ok we show that we have money but we have not enough killers with guns! It's true that some old people were killed by mainliners to get less than 20 bucks but with knive not with a gun and this happens twice a year.
And the risk to be shot here is less than 1% wherever you are. And the most kills with guns can be add to some confused cops

That's cool Erica. I remember when we moved to FL from Jersey the whole "Adam Walsh" thing was huge. They came through the school and fingerprinted all children in the state for the purpose of body identification- they had a nicer name for it though- but that's what it was for. You could probably never get away with finger printing an entire generation of school children like that. As we've seen with the current "state of terror", and the red scare before that- we get swept up in the moment and people with alterior motives find ways to violate our rights under the guise of proctecing life and preserving freedom.

They were developing a wrist watch tracking device for children a few years back- I thought it was brilliant. It even had a panic button. I don't know what happened- but I never heard about it's release. I think it's priceless- what a good invention- I can't believe it never entered the market?

Angry

Sincronicity: I just watched some story on Court TV and my "buddie" Detective David Messinar from the LVPD was on. They made him look so nice it took me a min. to place him. I'm greatful that they caught most of the kids involved in the shooting- but I have to comment this guy is one of the biggest jerks I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. He's the reason I did the press interview- just wanted to turn the heat up a little bit. He has a bad habbit of shouting "This isn't CSI" every time the crime lab fucked something up. I just think it sucks that he can play santa claus for the camera but not for a greiving family.

I just think it sucks that you would have to worry. I feel bad for you. I'm sure growing up in Jersey wasn't a safe place, but I assume most of Florida would be pretty safe. Vegas, well thats another story altogether. It's the city of Sin.
But what I find very interesting is Bowling for Columbine. How incredibly safe it is in Canada, and people do not even think to lock their doors, (or how M.B. has informed us how it is in Germany) and right across the lake is Detroit which is one of the most dangerous cities in America. It's just weird. All-in-all Americans seem to be more aggresive and violent than the majority of countries.
I personally feel like the neighborhood I live in is very safe, and I am thankful for the security. I would never choose to live anywhere that I didnt feel safe, to save a little $$$$. I would never do that to my son.
